Creator Publishing & Creation Terms

In short. You keep ownership of everything you create. By using FactsFigs you give us permission to host, display, resize, and let readers download your work — that permission is what makes the platform run. You promise you actually have the rights to your visual and its data, and that your data is accurate to the best of your knowledge; if a third party sues us over your content, you cover us. Publishing on FactsFigs' public pages is a bonus quota we grant at our discretion, not a right. For quota posts we keep the ad revenue in exchange for promoting you; a revenue-share path applies to sponsored stories and premium creators. We review submissions for quality and originality, not truth — you remain responsible for your facts.

These Creator Publishing & Creation Terms ("Creator Terms") apply to every creator who uses the Visual Story Editor to create, download, and — where granted — publish content on FactsFigs. They form part of, and are additional to, our Terms of Service, and incorporate the Content Policy by reference.

1. You own your content

You retain full ownership of the content you create — your visuals, your text, your compiled datasets, and your creative choices. Nothing in these Creator Terms transfers ownership to FactsFigs. This is deliberate: your work is yours, and the license you grant us is only what we need to operate the service. Where your local law grants moral rights (for example, the right to be credited), those remain with you to the extent they cannot be waived.

2. The license you grant FactsFigs

So that we can run the platform, host your content, generate downloads, and pass download rights to readers, you grant FactsFigs a license that is non-exclusive (you keep the right to use and license your content elsewhere), worldwide, royalty-free, and sublicensable through multiple tiers (so we can pass appropriate rights to readers and to service providers who operate the platform on our behalf). Under this license, you permit FactsFigs to:

1. host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute your content on the service;
2. adapt for technical purposes — resize, transcode, compress, generate thumbnails, produce PNG/SVG exports, and stamp attribution into downloadable files;
3. make your content available for download to readers under the license you choose (Section 4); and
4. where you use quota publishing (Section 5), host and publicly display the resulting post.

This license exists only to operate the service and deliver the rights you choose. It is not a transfer of ownership.

3. Your warranties, attestation, and indemnity

Each time you create, upload, or publish content, you confirm that:

• you hold all rights necessary in both the visual and the underlying data;
• your content does not infringe any third party's copyright, database right, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights;
• you have complied with the terms of any third-party data source you used (including any required attribution); and
• your data is accurate to the best of your knowledge.

Publish-time attestation. When you publish or export, you confirm a short attestation: "I have the rights to this visual and its data, and the data is accurate to the best of my knowledge." This is a condition of using the service.

Responsibility for accuracy. You are solely responsible for the accuracy of your data and claims. FactsFigs does not verify, certify, or fact-check your content (see Section 7).

Indemnity. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FactsFigs and its service providers against third-party claims, losses, and reasonable costs arising from your content, your breach of these Creator Terms, or your infringement of any third party's rights.

4. Choosing a license

When you publish or make a visual downloadable, you select a license from a fixed menu (never free text):

1. Share with attribution, no edits (default; ≈ CC BY-ND)
2. Share and adapt with attribution (≈ CC BY) — readers with paid edit rights may modify.
3. View only, no download

Your choice controls what readers may do — see Using FactsFigs Visuals. Choose deliberately. If you built a visual from a paid or separately-licensed dataset you cannot sub-license for adaptation, choose option 1 or 3 — do not choose "share and adapt". FactsFigs-branded licenses may be changed for future use, but rights a reader has already exercised survive under the license that applied at the time (Section 8).

5. Publishing on FactsFigs is a quota privilege, not a right

FactsFigs is not an open user-generated-content site. Creators primarily design and download visuals for use on their own sites and platforms. Publishing on FactsFigs' public pages works as follows:

• Quota. Subscribing creators may be granted a limited publishing quota (for example, two to three posts) as an earned bonus, at FactsFigs' discretion and on merit.
• No open queue. There is no open "request to publish" queue. Access is granted at FactsFigs' discretion; it may be increased for high-performing creators.
• Gate before slot. An originality / plagiarism check runs as a gate before a quota slot is consumed — not as after-the-fact cleanup. Submissions that fail do not consume quota.
• Discretionary and revocable. FactsFigs may grant, increase, reduce, suspend, or revoke publishing quota at its discretion — for cause such as plagiarism, policy violations, poor quality, or persistently low audience response.
• Quota posts are hosted by FactsFigs. The full Section 2 license, the Section 3 warranties and attestation, and the Content Policy apply to every quota post.

6. Data sources and database rights

• Credit sources. Every visual must credit its data source(s) in the attribution block, in the required format. This credit is baked into downloadable files.
• Database right. In the EU/UK, a sui generis database right can protect a dataset separately from copyright. Ensure you have rights to the data itself, not just permission to view it.
• Third-party data terms. Public sources often carry their own attribution or use conditions — follow them.
• Maps. Downloadable maps must be based on OpenStreetMap (ODbL, attribution) or public-domain sources (e.g. Natural Earth), never on providers whose terms forbid downloading or offline reuse of rendered tiles.

7. Review is about form, not truth

FactsFigs reviews quota and sponsored submissions for design quality, formatting, guideline compliance, prohibited content, and originality (plagiarism) — and checks that sources are cited, not that they are correct. This review does not constitute verification, endorsement, or fact-checking, and does not shift responsibility for accuracy away from you. Sponsored stories and featured content carry higher editorial responsibility because FactsFigs actively chose and promoted them; they receive real review and must be clearly labelled. Content making health, medical, or financial claims may require extra review or added disclaimers.

8. Survival of rights (deletion and cancellation)

• Reader downloads survive. If you delete a visual or cancel your subscription, any rights a reader already exercised (e.g. a visual already downloaded under its then-current license) continue under the terms that applied at download.
• Quota posts may remain live. Quota posts already published may remain hosted on FactsFigs' public pages after you delete other content or cancel, for their ongoing promotional, ad-revenue, and SEO value. The Section 2 license to host them survives cancellation.

9. Revenue

• Creator subscriptions pay for use of the Visual Story Editor (design + download).
• Quota (free-bonus) posts. You are credited by byline and a link back to your profile. FactsFigs retains the ad revenue on those public pages, framed as free promotional distribution provided to you. This is stated transparently at publish time.
• Revenue share. A revenue-share path applies to sponsored stories and to premium / high-performing creators; terms are set out in the relevant program agreement.
• Churn. Because quota posts may remain live after cancellation (Section 8), they may continue to generate ad revenue and SEO value for FactsFigs after you leave.

10. Acceptable use, changes, and contact

You must comply with the Content Policy and the acceptable-use rules in the Terms of Service. Prohibited content, plagiarism, and misuse may result in removal of content, loss of quota, suspension, or termination. FactsFigs may update these Creator Terms; material changes will be notified as described in the Terms of Service. Questions: ai@factsfigs.com.
